Type A dissection, the most common and severe, is a tear near the heart of the ascending aorta that can extend into the abdomen. This is treated with emergent aortic replacement surgery,\u201d Gower said. \u201cA Type B dissection can be treated medically by lowering heart rate and blood pressure. However, there are times when it still requires surgical treatment, like if it\u2019s showing signs of malperfusion to the organ.\u201d&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"mntl-sc-block_38-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-adslot mntl-block\"><\/div>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_39-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> Surgical options included an open surgical repair, where an incision is made directly on the damaged aorta, or an endovascular repair, which involves a <a class=\"recommendation-inline-link-ai\" href=\"https:\/\/www.verywellhealth.com\/stents-or-bypass-surgery-1745725\" data-component=\"link\" data-source=\"inlineLink\" data-type=\"internalLink\" data-ordinal=\"1\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">stent graft<\/a> being placed inside the aorta through an incision in the groin.<span data-cite=\"4\" class=\"inline-citation-node\"><\/span>&nbsp;\n<\/p>\n<div id=\"mntl-sc-block_40-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-adslot mntl-block\"><\/div>\n<p id=\"mntl-sc-block_41-0\" class=\"comp mntl-sc-block mntl-sc-block-html\"> There are also medications used to lower blood pressure, but that alone is not a treatment for a dissection.
